Boston College is a terrific school, especially for kids with a good head on their shoulders like yourself. If you look at their football team compared to others, one thing that stands out is the character of their players. Guys like Herzlich, Kiwanuka, Kuechly, Matt Ryan, Castonzo, M. Harris. BC will also give you opportunities on and off the playing field. They prepare their players for both the NFL and not the NFL, a rarity in big-time college athletics. I'd choose BC or Northwestern if I were you. BC is having an off-year this year, but they're young and that should change. Best of luck.

My daughter is a graduate of Lake Forest H.S. and Boston College. She too was an athlete (co-captain field hockey) as was her future husband. The school's culture was perfect and she received a great education allowing her to get a masters from Columbia University in N.Y. As you can see I am very proud as your dad would be if you attended B.C.

Hey Faith, great blog!

I committed to BC last February. It is a great school as i'm sure you know. If you have any questions or want to have some insight in why I committed, let me know! Go Eagles! And good luck and enjoy you decision making process.

If you want the total package, you will choose BC. Sounds corny, but it's true. Not only will you be part of a football family, you will be part of a tight knit community that is going to help you succeed wherever you choose to go in life. If you play well, you WILL go to the NFL. If you choose a different path, you will be well prepared. BC really is a special place, and all you have to do is talk to former graduates to understand that.

I am a BC grad, so this is biased.

The football team tends to have high quality guys and a large percentage of "under the radar" guys become all ACC or go pro. I think that has a lot to do with the coaching, culture and expectations. They win year in and year out so you likely won't go through horrible losing experiences. I think the talent level of the last few classes has been pretty high so they can be really good the next few years. Plus, the education is a good fall back.

As for the school, beautiful campus. Great medium size (no way you know everyone in your class when you graduate, but you will know a lot of people). People differ (at every school), but on the whole I found the people smart and fun. It won't be hard to find friends you can count on. I liked the lack of frats. When I visited frat schools, I could tell which frat they were in by how they dressed or acted. I liked having multiple groups of friends depending on my mood or what was happening. My best friends for life are from there. Way more of a drinking school than anything harder core (I never saw anything harder than pot). The campus is walkable and gorgeous. Stadium is on campus. City is nearby with lots going on and lots of other schools to visit if you meet people so it doesn't get "small" like I hear a lot of small town colleges do.

Hope this helps and hope you end up there!
